On May 22nd the Tallahassee Senior Center hosted its annual Silver Stars banquet to award nine of our outstanding volunteers with their own Silver Star Awards. Rose Blackburn, Jean Coyne, Fred and Margarete Deckert, James Ford, Charles Hazelip, Tadako Knight, Vivian Sherlock, and the late Theodore "Ted" Judd were awarded. These nine volunteers have shown unwavering dedication to the city of Tallahassee and the senior center. We are forever grateful for the work they have done to support the senior citizens of our city.
As a new intern at the Tallahassee Senior Center, the Silver Stars banquet provided me a beautiful glimpse into the heart of this agency. This is a place were participants become volunteers and volunteers stay for 10, 15, even 20 years! The Senior Center has made such an impact on the lives of senior citizens in our community that they in turn have dedicated their time and services back to the center. It truly was an incredible event made a reality by the hard work of the Tallahassee Senior Service's employees. I was thankful for the opportunity to learn more about the Senior Center and all of the wonderful volunteers who were honored that night!
